![]() In later stages players have the ability to “burn” Xenosathem cards, that is discard them back to the main resource pile and trade them in for a single card of equal value. For Wave 2, players draw a single Xenosathem card of value 3 each round, and for Wave 3, a card of value 6. For Wave 1, players will draw a single Xenosathem card of value 1 for each round. At the start of each round, players also draw 1 additional Xenosathem card from the main pile appropriate for that Wave. Players will shuffle these 10 cards and then draw their initial hand of 6. At the start of the game, players will all start with the same deck of 6 Militia Cards and 4 Xenosathem: the former are the most basic troops you can deploy and offer very little in the way of attack or health, but serve a more important function starting from Wave 2 onward the latter is essentially your currency for the game, and what you use to purchase new troops or equipment cards. Each wave gets progressively more difficult, introducing stronger, more fearsome aliens to fend off. XenoShyft is played over a series of 9 rounds, broken up into 3 waves. Each player will perform many of their actions simultaneously, but when it comes time to actually combat the Hive, this will occur in player order. On your turn, you’ll draw up a number of cards from your deck and play your hand. XenoShyft is a classic deck-builder in the same family of Dominion or Legendary. Each player will assume the role of a different Division of the Base: Med Bay, Weapons Research, Science Lab, Armory, and more, and while there is no fundamental difference to how each one plays, they offer specific benefits available to that player, with more added in later stages of the game. Their onslaught (hey, that’s the name of the game) can only be subsided by the elite soldiers of NorTec Military. The Hive, as they’re called, are a race of disgusting, vile insects that relentlessly push toward the base, growing stronger and more dangerous as time ticks on. In what is essentially a distilled, stripped down concept of that movie, XenoShyft: Onslaught has a team of up to 4 players working together to prevent an insectoid-alien invasion from overrunning and destroying their base. ![]() If you’ve seen Starship Troopers, and ever wondered what a good version of it looked like, look no further, because XenoShyft: Onslaught has your daily dose of arachnophobia. Luckily it didn’t have a negative impact on the career of its leading man, Casper Van Dien, who went on to star in such classics as Dracula 3000 and Sharktopus vs. Sure, it was entertaining, but in all the wrong ways. With the turn of a hand crank, each rifle discharges in rapid succession, effectively mimicking the machine gun’s iconic forerunner. The DIY “ Redneck Obliterator” consists of six SKS semi-automatic rifles equipped with high-capacity magazines, arranged in a circle to facilitate automatic fire. A bespoke gunsmith with a little too much time on his hands has figured out how to transform a cache of rifles into a poor man’s Gatling gun.
